Colombia & Trump

I saw this really good thread on Twitter by Patrick S. Tomlinson @stealthygeek that I wanted to share:

Because the media is already getting everything as wrong as they possibly can, let’s go over what actually happened with Colombia yesterday. Under Biden/Harris, Colombia accepted more than 400 deportation flights, 120 just in 2024 alone. These were normal commercial planes. 1/

Everything was fine. There were no issues. And then Trump came along. Instead of just sending the same chartered commercial flights of deportees Colombia had accepted hundreds of times, Trump took Colombias, shackled them, and threw them on US Military jets at exorbitant cost. 2/

Not wanting the humiliating, disrespectful, and cruel optics of Colomians in chains thrown off US Air Force jets on his own turf, Colombia’s President, rightfully told Trump “Hey, stop being a fascist coded asshole, pendejo.” Trump retaliated with a threat of 25% tariffs. 3/

President Petro responded with threats of 50% tariffs on American imports. Trump immediately folded like a cheap suit and withdrew his demands to use military planes to transport deportees, which, again, was the only difference from what Biden had done. 4/

So, Trump created a problem that DID NOT EXIST, instantly lost, gave up everything he was trying to negotiate, looked like a weak dickhead to the rest of the world, and damaged diplomatic relations with an ally while boosting Chinese soft power in South America. 5/

This is the yuge Trump “win” MAGA and the complicit US media is talking about this morning. We are in hell. 6/6
